Hare Krsna,
Putrada Ekadasi is also known as Vaikuntha Ekadasi in South India. Putrada Ekadasi is observed by all the Vaisnavas. There was an incident explained by Lord Krsna to King Yudhisthira. King Suketumaan and Queen Shaibhya were in great distress for they didn't have any son. Their forefathers were also worried since soon there would be no one to offer them tarpana.
One day when the king went to forest due to frustration, he met sages in the forest. They advised the king to follow Putrada Ekadasi. After returning to kingdom, both the king and queen followed this Ekadasi and begot a very nice son who ruled the kingdom.
On the other note, in South India, Nammalwar stayed in this planet till he turned 32. Lord Himself came to Vaikuntha's door to take him in. To commemorate this wonderful happening, this Ekadasi is also celebrated as Vaikuntha Ekadasi. A crown with the lotus feet of the Lord on the top of it is kept in the Sri Vaishnava temple , signifying Nammalwar’s intense desire to dwell under the lotus feet of the Lord. The crown represents Nammalwar’s head. This crown is named Shatari and is symbolically placed on the heads of the believers who visit the temple to show the Lordship of the Supreme Lord as well as to signify our eternal servitude to His lotus feet.
Fasting method:
Full eating is condemned on Ekadasi. Fasting on Ekadasi day is very pleasing to Krsna. One should avoid eating grains - rice, dal, chappathi, etc. all types of Grains on this day.
If one is able to observe the Ekadasi with water, that's the best. If one is not able to do the above, then he can take frutis, tender-coconut, Vegetables.
If one is not able to observe Ekadasi with frutis and water, due to bodily health, he can take Saamai rice and spend more time in reading and chanting about Krsna. The main aim of Ekadasi fasting is to find more time to think about Krsna and do more service and reduce sleeping time and eating time.
Thank you
